Russian banks discovered a new virus to steal money
In 2019, fraudsters began using new viruses for Android which can themselves enter the victim’s mobile application and withdraw money. The virus attacked customers of at least two Russian banks, but so far there were just a few cases.
Russian banks faced a new type of fraud: a trojan that can automatically transfer funds through mobile bank applications for Android (the so-called auto-fill). Group-IB, an expert in cybersecurity, described the virus mechanism in its annual report Hi-Tech Crime Trends 2019 (available to RBC).
RBC interviewed the largest banks, and two of them reported that they were dealing with such a virus, although the scale of its use is still extremely small.
